SOLAR GRANTS FOR FARMS

TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme

Farmers can access Solar PV support through the TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme.

The scheme currently provides 60% grant aid for eligible solar investments and has a separate €90,000 investment ceiling.

Therefore, if the full €90,000 investment qualifies, the 60% grant rate could provide up to €54,000 in grant aid. The actual payment depends on eligible costs, approval and the rules of the scheme.

Important:
TAMS applications are assessed in tranches. An eligible application does not automatically guarantee approval.

Then underneath the box:

Can a farm use the SEAI Non-Domestic grant instead?

Potentially, yes. The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant also includes the agricultural sector.

However, you should not assume that the same project can claim both TAMS and SEAI grant support. The correct grant route should be confirmed before work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar Grant FAQs

Clear answers to common questions about home, business and farm Solar PV grants in Ireland.

Home Solar Grants

How much is the SEAI solar grant for a home?

In 2026, the SEAI Solar Electricity Grant provides up to €1,800 towards an eligible home Solar PV installation. The amount depends on the size of the Solar PV system.

Who can qualify for the home Solar PV grant?

The scheme is available to eligible homeowners, including private landlords, as well as qualifying Owner Management Companies and Approved Housing Bodies.

The home must have an MPRN and must have been built and occupied before 2021. In addition, the same MPRN must not have received previous Solar PV grant funding.

Do I need grant approval before installing solar panels?

Yes. You should apply for the SEAI grant and receive approval before eligible work begins. Otherwise, the project may not qualify for grant payment.

Once SEAI approves the domestic grant, the current grant offer gives you eight months to complete the work and required documentation.

Business & Farm Solar Grants

How much is the non-domestic Solar PV grant?

The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant currently provides support of up to €162,600 for eligible Solar PV projects.

The grant amount depends on system size, with support available for eligible capacity up to 1000kWp.

Who can apply for the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant?

The scheme covers eligible businesses, the agricultural sector, public bodies, schools, community centres and non-profit societies.

Therefore, it can apply to more than traditional commercial businesses.

What Solar PV grant is available for farmers?

Farmers may be eligible for support through the TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme.

The scheme currently provides 60% grant aid and has a separate €90,000 investment ceiling. Therefore, 60% of a fully eligible €90,000 investment would equal €54,000 in grant aid.

However, the final payment depends on eligible costs, approval and the rules of the scheme.

Can a farm use the SEAI Non-Domestic grant?

Yes. The agricultural sector is included within the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant.

However, the correct grant route depends on the project. For this reason, farmers should establish which scheme suits the proposed investment before work begins.

VAT & Solar Grant Applications

Is there 0% VAT on home solar panels in Ireland?

Yes. The zero VAT rate currently applies to the supply and installation of solar panels on or adjacent to qualifying private dwellings.

This support is separate from the SEAI Solar Electricity Grant. As a result, an eligible homeowner can benefit from both the grant and the current zero VAT treatment.

Does 0% VAT apply to business or farm solar panels?

The zero VAT treatment for private dwellings does not generally apply to solar panels installed on commercial, industrial, retail or farm buildings.

However, a private dwelling located on a farm can fall within the private dwelling rules where the relevant conditions apply.

Can Laltec apply for my solar grant for me?

Laltec can help explain the grant process, assess the Solar PV project and provide the relevant installer-side information and documentation.

However, grant schemes can require the applicant to complete the applicant-side application directly. We can explain what you need before the installation begins.

When should I contact Laltec about a grant-funded solar project?

Contact us before you start the installation. First, we can discuss the property and Solar PV requirements.

From there, we can help you understand the likely grant route and what needs to happen before eligible work begins.

Can solar grant values and rules change?

Yes. Grant values, eligibility rules and application requirements can change over time.

Therefore, always confirm the current SEAI or Department of Agriculture requirements before committing to the work.

Grant information last reviewed: September 2026. Grant schemes, values and eligibility requirements can change. Always check the latest official SEAI, Revenue or Department of Agriculture terms before starting grant-funded work.
